My Karate Kids

Brinley and Alex have been taking Karate now at Bobby Lawrence Karate for 3 months and ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! This place is amazing! If you are on the fence about getting your child into Karate....DO IT! It teaches your child to have respect for others, discipline, respect for YOU.. Mr Page, who is the instructor is always saying that in order for them to work towards their belts they have to do 3 things...1. keep their rooms clean 2. No fighting at home 3. Listen to parents. ****And he keeps checking in with them to see how they are doing. Mr Page is AMAZING with them! He is seriously the greatest! I love everything about Karate and it is exactly what both Alex and Brinley need!!! This past week they both moved up and got their Yellow belts! They did great! Way to go guys! We're so proud of you!

It was a little long for McKaylee....she looks thrilled to be there, doesn't she?

He gets his high kicks from his dad!

This is them doing a "wall sit" for endurance.

Way to go Bubba!

This girl is AMAZING! She's got some serious aggression issues!!!

Doing the "Plank" for endurance

She has got some MEAN kicks! ....again, all thanks to Brady and his twinkle toes!

Way to go Brin! We Love you!

Here's our little happy girl! Growing so big! Look at those cheeks!

4 Year milestone....Serenity prayer

THE SERENITY PRAYER
God, grant me the Serenity
To accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.

Yesterday was my 4 year "Birthday" of my NEW and IMPROVED life! :) Last year I did a more extensive post about what a long journey it has been. If you would like to read it, you can! :) http://www.bradysbunch5.blogspot.com/2008/11/serenity-prayer.html

This year, I just wanted to take a few minutes to say what I have learned from this year and what an amazing year it has been as far as my recovery has gone.

One thing that it is so important for an addict to remember is that addiction is a disease. It will NEVER go away. This year has had many ups and downs. There have been things that have made me happier than I have ever been and things that have made me more sad and hurt than I could even imagine! Years ago, this is when I would turn to drugs. These are the times I turn to my family and to my Heavenly Father. I am so grateful for that! I know I say this over and over but I could not be here without the overwhelming support of my family and friends EVERYWHERE! That is all of you! Thank you! I can't even tell you how many heart breaking stories I hear of family members who have been lost to drug addiction and how much their families miss them. I am so glad that I am the very small percentage of success stories out there! And I truly know it is only because of my Faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and because of the support of all of my family and friends!

Just today I met a cute young girl who is struggling with addiction and has a young little son. I felt the need to reach out to her. She asked how long I had been sober and I told her and when I asked her, she was embarrassed to say she had been sober for 30 days but recently relapsed and has now been sober "only a week". I stopped her right there! I told her that every day for an addict is a HUGE success! Every HOUR for an addict is a huge success! The fact that this young girl is getting help for her and her son is a HUGE step! I really hope that through the years I am able to help others with their struggle with addiction!
It is such an ugly disease! It affects not only the addict, but also the families and everyone around them!

If any of you know anyone who is struggling with addiction, here is a link to an addiction website http://www.addictionsearch.com/treatment/UT/city/salt-lake-city.html

Thanks again for everyone who has been such an amazing friend to me! I love you all! Here's to another great year!

(In case you wonder why I always use a picture of a butterfly, it's because at the rehabilitation facility I went to, they teach that when you enter, you are more like a caterpillar,....when you leave, you are more like a butterfly ready to start a new life with new wings...)
